The Climate Forecasting Experiment
Monitored from Oxford University in England, this is the self-proclaimed largest climate forecasting experiment in the world, and you can contribute! What does your computer do when you are not using it? Oxford wants to run climate models, so they can predict the climate hundreds of years from now. You get to see the models evolve as it runs - they use your data and credit you. This is known as “distributed computing”, and Oxford is requesting your CPU contributions!
