MAS Intern Testimonials
Hear From Our Interns
"I found the MAS Internship through an e-mail from an advisor I’d had my freshman year. I thought about taking a different kind of class from the average lectures and labs and decided to give it a shot. As a first semester sophomore it was intimidating to be in a class with many people older than I was. However, when I found out about working with kids and cool animals, I decided I was in for the ride. As someone wanting to graduate with a communications major and biology minor, this was perfect for me. It could be a great opportunity for anyone who wants to get more experience with a real organization, working with people, handling animals, working with internet media, and so much more.
The MAS is still a very new organization and we are still working to find the best ways for us to grow and achieve our goals. For me, this was the most exciting part. I wasn’t starting at a job filing papers for a huge corporation. I really had that chance to make a difference here and be heard. After making a podcast for my first semester, I was really proud of the work I had done. I had also made some great friends in the class. I decided to come back for another round. The second semester of interning with the MAS I was working with new people and doing new things. We were mostly working with the internet and reaching out to our members, while other interns were planning events, fundraising, and other important jobs. The biggest focus quickly became the MAS Annual Meeting. This was when I felt I was the most productive of my whole time with the MAS. Everyone was working hard to make the event memorable and enjoyable for everyone involved. I loved being a part of the hard working atmosphere and the end result was amazing. We held the Annual Meeting at the Museum of Science. We brought out animals, amazing scientists attended, and so many members showed up, including kids! This was a great success for everyone that helped create the event.
At the awards ceremony I received the award for Intern of the Year. My parents and friends were all proud. This is a great experience to already have under my belt by the end of my sophomore year. I know that I can always count on the people at the MAS for recommendations and help when I need it. I have worked with amazing people and it has made me feel better about myself along with adding to my career background. Any student looking for an outlet to use their energy in a way that isn’t so textbook-based could thrive here. I hope to continue to work with the MAS and am excited to see the new faces we could have next year. I would recommend this experience to any college student looking for a place to shine."

"I joined the MAS to fulfill a requirement in my major in order for me to graduate. This internship has gone from a requirement of mine to a cause I will forever be a part of. The MAS is an amazing non-profit geared towards expanding STEM education in the state of Massachusetts. Massachusetts is lucky to have such a great organization and I am so blessed to have been able to be a part of the MAS. I have learned an abundance of skills and information while interning with MAS that I will take with me for the rest of my life. My internship has come to an end, but I will be volunteering from here on out and continuing to expand the MAS. With the expansion of the MAS we can be in schools all over the state and giving aid to those who truly need it. If you would like to volunteer or donate somewhere the MAS is such a great cause to be a part of and I’m so glad to be able to come back again and again!"
