UMass Amherst: Research is What's Next

The 2010 Report on Research for UMass Amherst, titled "Research is What's Next," has just been released, with a focus on projects ranging from biofuels to business and technology incubation. In the report, vice chancellor for Research and Engagement Michael F. Malone writes that the recession has done nothing to dampen the campus's rise to the top rung of public research universities. "As a confirmation, the campus had another record-breaking year for sponsored activities, receiving $170 million in grants and contracts, a 24 percent increase compared with Fiscal Year 2009," writes Malone. "With our very productive and creative faculty, we secured the number four spot on the National Science Foundation's list of top New England Grant Recipients for the second year in a row."
